Decoding your Human Design Strategy
Lesson #3 in the Human Design 101 Series
Dear Human Design newbie,
In our first lesson in this series, I introduced the 4.5 Human Design Types. By now, you’ve likely noticed that each Type has a unique Strategy that describes how they’re designed to approach life.
Understanding your Strategy can help you experience less resistance in your life. It can also help you see where you’ve been acting based on your conditioning rather than your true self and desires.
The Human Design Types and Their Strategies
Projector Strategy: Wait for the Invitation
As a Projector, your focused and penetrating aura gets to the heart of matters—and people—effortlessly and efficiently. It is this very gift that informs your strategy.
Because you see truths that others may not yet be ready to face, it is crucial to wait to be recognised and invited before sharing your guidance. Offering unsolicited advice leaves you feeling unseen and unappreciated and is ultimately a recipe for bitterness and burnout.
However, waiting to be invited is not a passive process. Waiting is not lying around doing nothing, hoping and praying for opportunities to come to you. To be invited, you must be recognised. To be recognised, there must be a way for people to see you and experience your wisdom.
This means you’ve got to put yourself out there, Projector.
Manifestor Strategy: Inform before Initiating
Manifestor, you are the only Human Design Type that’s designed to initiate action. You are a catalyst and an activator, and you don’t have to wait for anyone or anything to “go out and get it”. But for most of your life, you’ve probably experienced immense resistance from others.
Think of yourself as a high-speed express train. Others are headed the same way and waiting for you to slow down at the platform so they can hop on—but you never do and they’re left standing there, watching as you zoom past. In much the same way, your intense energy and closed, repelling aura are uncomfortable for others, and they may—consciously or subconsciously—attempt to control what they do not understand.
This is where your Strategy of informing comes in.
Informing is not asking for permission. And you don’t need to inform everyone of everything. Informing is simply giving those involved or affected by your actions a heads-up so you’re free to go forth and do your thing without interference.
Generator Strategy: Respond
Generator, your Strategy is the most straightforward yet the most misunderstood.
You’ve probably been told all your life that you need to “make things happen” or “take initiative” but this is the exact opposite of how you’re designed to function.
Your defined Sacral Centre acts like a powerful energetic magnet, drawing in people and opportunities. And it activates when you respond to things that excite you and draw you in, giving you a consistent source of energy to see things through to the end.
What do you respond to? Pretty much anything—opportunities, circumstances, challenges, questions, life itself. You live a life of response, Generator. Your challenge is less about learning how to respond and more about learning to recognize when you’re responding to something that truly lights you up inside.

Manifesting Generators: Respond first, then inform
As the name suggests, your Strategy is somewhat of a hybrid of the Manifestor and Generator strategies—but not quite.
You’re a Generator first and foremost, Mani-Gen, so your Sacral is your guiding force. Your Strategy is to respond first. But after you respond, you can then catalyse your response by informing others of your decisions and getting started on your new direction.
You have access to a powerful feedback loop of responding and acting that allows you to bring your ideas, projects and ventures to life with the speed and ease of a well-oiled machine.
Reflector Strategy: Wait a lunar cycle
The only lunar Type, your Strategy, Reflector, is deeply connected to La Luna.
As the moon moves through each of the 64 gates of the bodygraph during the roughly 29.5-day lunar cycle, you gain access to new perspectives, knowledge and wisdom that help you make the best decisions for yourself.
But does this mean you need to wait 28-30 days before making every single decision?
Yes and no.
For major decisions, you may well need a full lunar cycle to find clarity. For smaller decisions, you may not need the full 29.5 days. Regardless, clarity comes with time for you, Reflector. Time to sample, time to taste your decisions in different environments, and time to figure out what feels right.
